It’s been a busy year for OnePlus. In the first half of 2021, the company released its latest flagships, the

OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro, as well as its first two budget phones, the OnePlus Nord N100 ($179.99) and the OnePlus Nord N10 5G ($299.99). Less than six months after the N100 hit store shelves, the OnePlus Nord N200 5G ($239.99) is ready to replace it, thanks to a more powerful processor, 5G connectivity, and a higher-resolution display. The phone's poor cameras and ungenerous software upgrade policy are its weak points, but neither is a deal-breaker. The N10 remains our Editors' Choice among budget phones, but if you want a 5G-capable phone at a price that won't break the bank, the N200 is an excellent option.

A Crisp 90Hz Display

The N200 5G has a lot in common with the N100. It measures 6.4 by 2.9 by 0.3 inches (HWD) and

weighs 6.6 ounces. It’s ever-so-slightly thinner; you’d be hard pressed to notice the difference. Despite its large form factor, it’s thin and light enough to hold in one hand for extended periods.

The 6.49-inch, 1,080-by-2,400-pixel 90Hz display is crisper than the N100's, but the higher pixel density means it's not quite as bright. Viewing angles are 

excellent. Colors skew cool by default, but you can adjust the color balance in the Settings menu. For a phone in this price range, it's an excellent display 

that's easy on the eyes through hours of watching videos, scrolling through social media feeds, or playing games.

The graduated blue backplate and the chassis are made of plastic, with a semi-gloss finish that quickly collects fingerprints. The rectangular camera stack 

in the upper left corner matches the backplate and is slightly larger and thicker than the one you’ll find on the N100. A silver OnePlus logo is prominently located in the center of the backplate.

The top edge of the N200 5G is bare; the headphone jack, USB-C charging port, and speaker grille sit on its bottom panel. On the left side, you’ll find the volume rocker and SIM/microSD slot. The Power button with integrated fingerprint sensor is on the right side of the phone. The fingerprint sensor is fast, responsive, and easy for small hands to reach.

Durability is on par with Samsung Galaxy A32 5G ($279.99) and other budget phones. The N200 5G is water-resistant but lacks an IP rating to protect against drops in the sink or tub. The plastic frame and backplate can handle minor drops and dings without injury, but the Gorilla Glass 3 display is unlikely to handle direct impacts well.

The Least Expensive 5G You Can Buy

OnePlus sells an unlocked version of the N200 5G; it works on every US carrier and participating MVNO. There's also a version sold in T-Mobile stores that's optimized for T-Mobile's network. Bands 66 and 71 are on board for improved network connectivity.

We recorded solid data speeds when using the N200 5G on T-Mobile’s 5G network in Chicago, averaging 154.2Mbps down and 46Mbps up. The Galaxy A32 5G’s speeds were slightly slower, at 141.9Mbps down and 42.8Mbps down, but there are dozens of variables that could account for the difference; on this front, the two phones are equivalent. These data speeds might not seem like much when compared with a flagship phone, but for a phone costing less than $250, they're impressive.
